The campus is very famous for its natural beauty. It's located on riverside of the Qiantang River, and close to the Liuhe Pagoda. Previously it was the campus of the Hangchow University, currently it also holds the famous Hangchow University Historic Site, which is a famous National Historic Site & Cultural Heritage under State Protection of .

Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine

Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine , was a defunct medical college for higher education in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. It was one of main roots for the current School of Medicine, Zhejiang University .

Brief history



The college was founded as Zhejiang Medical School in June 1911. July 1913, the Zhejiang Medical School was renamed as the Zhejiang Public School of Medicine . August 1931, it was renamed as Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine .

1949, after the Chinese Civial War, the college was taken-over by the Hangzhou Civic Military Control Committee .

During 1952-1953, the Adjustment for University Colleges and Departments started, Zhejiang University was dissociated, and its medical school, merged together with the Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine, formed the Zhejiang Medical College .

1960, Zhejiang Medical College was promoted to Zhejiang Medical University .

1998, the reunification of Zhejiang University was approved, and Zhejiang Medical University became the School of Medicine, Zhejiang University.

Zhejiang Medical University

The Zhejiang Medical University , was a defunct university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China. 1998, it was merged into Zhejiang University.

Brief History



1952-1953, due to the Adjustment for University Colleges and Departments , Zhejiang University was dissociated, and its medical school, merged together with the Zhejiang Provincial College of Medicine, formed the new Zhejiang Medical College .

1960, Zhejiang Medical College was promoted to Zhejiang Medical University .

1998, the reunification of Zhejiang University happened, and Zhejiang Medical University became the School of Medicine, Zhejiang University.

The campus



The university originally located aside the famous West Lake in Hangzhou. Its campus was the , which later became a main medical campus of Zhejiang University. Due to the new civic plan for Hangzhou downtown, the campus was sold to the the Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts at a price of 2.46 Chinese Yuan.

The main teaching building of the university was the highest skyscraper around the West Lake, and was one of the tallest in Hangzhou City. The teaching buildings were torn down by explosions. The land of the campus is planned to buid a luxurious hotel and currently under dense constructions.

The university



The university and its teaching hospital originally had a total faculty of more than 9000, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and three from Chinese Academy of Engineering .

The whole university faculty and students were merged into the Zhejiang University in 1998, and became the School of Medicine of Zhejiang University. The reunification was finished in 1999.

Zhejiang Institute of Modern Physics

Zhejiang Institute of Modern Physics , it's a research center for theoretical physics owned by the Zhejiang University, People's Republic of China.

Introduction


The institute was formally founded in 1991, based on the advice from the youngest Tsung-Dao Lee and current President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Lu Yongxiang, both of whom are . Tsung-Dao Lee was pointed to be the first of the institute. The prominent leader Chen Yun also wrote the name for the institute.

It's located on the hill of the , and in the . It has a construsction area of 1,000 m2.

It mainly focuses on the fields of quantum field theory, string theory, , etc. Current researchers including Mr. Xiaowei TANG also do the interdisciplinary studies of biophysics. It's also coupled closely with the Department of Physics of Zhejiang University.
